High durability alloy coating
The excellent corrosion resistance ZINCALUME® steel is a result of the unique aluminum/zinc alloy coating comprised with the 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc and 1.5% silicon. Extensive testing in a variety of environments has shown that the superior corrosion resistance of ZINCALUME® steel means that it will last up to 4 times greater than an equivalent galvanized coating.
The table below shows the results of Australian exposure tests and demonstrates the superior performance of ZINCALUME® steel.
Special coating structure
The ZINCALUME® steel coating is seen in figure B. As can be seen from this figure the ZINCALUME® steel coating is much more complex than a simple galvanized coating. This is because ZINCALUME® steel is protected by a complex structure that provides both sacrificial and barrier protection.

The double protection of ZINCALUME® steel id in the metallic coating, comprising 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc and 1.5% silicon. The zinc element in the metallic coating provides sacrificial galvanized protection to the base steel. The aluminum element in the coating provides a tough physical barrier against extreme atmospheric condition.
ZINCALUME® steel is offered in several strength grades. These are separated into two main grades; a medium grade G300 and a high grade G550.
These two main grades can meet the needs whether the application requires long spans or formed into complex shapes and curves.
The specially developed resin coating applied to ZINCALUME® steel protects the surface from marks made during handing and roll-forming. The so called anti-fingerprint coating on ZINCALUME® steel has the added benefit of reducing wear and tear on roll former rolls. The resin coating also resists marks made by dirt from sweaty hands, moisture, boots, etc. ensuring that the product retains its excellent appearance after installation.
